Abstract

When it comes to tradition in Turkish poetry, first of all, the tradition of classical poerty, which has a history of about eight centuries, comes to mind. At the center of this tradition is the understanding of tawheed and mysticism, which is the basis of Islamic civilization. This organic link that tradition has established with religion puts it against Turkish poerty, which is trying to modernize in every sense. The negative attitude towards classical poetry continued until the middle of the Republic. The idea of continuing the tradition of classical poetry and benefiting from it first came to the fore with Yahya Kemal. This opinion ; ıt is also adopted by poets such as Asaf Halet Çelebi , Behçet Necatigil, Attila İlhan, Hilmi Yavuz, Sezai Karakoç, Cahit Zarifoğlu, Ebubekir Eroğlu, Arif Ay, İhsan Deniz these poets, who adopted the tradition as a classical poetry tradition centered on tawheed and mysticism, stand out with their poems in which a solid and metaphysical sensibility is felt intensely. The artists’ affirmation of the tradition and their use of it as an opportuniyt is continued by the poets, especially after 1980. The way tradition takes plce in the poems of İhsan Deniz, one of the poets of this generation, is the subject of the study. In the study, after drawing a general framework about “tradition” in Turkish poetry, İhsa Deniz’s understanding of poetry and his views on tradition were touched upon, and then the language, style, content and form characteristics of Sufism and classcal poetry tradition, which are a continuation of the classical poetry tradition, were tried to be determined in the artist’s poems.
