VII. Henry ve VIII. Henry Dönemlerinde İngiltere'nin İskoçya Politikası

Abstract

1485 yılında gerçekleştirilen Bosworth Savaşı İngiltere tarihinde bir dönüm noktasıdır; Kral III. Richard savaş meydanında yenilmiş ve savaşın galibi Henry Tudor VII. Henry olarak taç giymiştir. Böylelikle İngiltere’de York hanedanlığı dönemi kapanmış, Tudor hanedanlığı dönemi başlamıştır. Ancak Henry Tudor’ın İngiltere tahtı üzerindeki hak iddiasının meşruiyeti tartışmalı olunca kralın hükümranlığı boyunca en büyük problemi meşruiyet sorunu olmuştur. 1509 yılına kadar İngiltere’yi yöneten VII. Henry’den sonra oğlu VIII. Henry olarak taç giymiş ve 1547 yılına kadar hüküm sürmüştür. VIII. Henry’nin annesinin York hanedanlığının mensubu olması sayesinde bu dönemde meşruiyet sorunu gündemden düşmüş olsa da, İngiltere Protestan reformasyon sürecinin başlamasıyla çalkantılı bir sürece girmiştir. İngiltere’nin yeni hanedanlığının ilk iki monarkının dış politikaları İngiltere açısından sürekliliği mi ya da değişimi mi ifade etmektedir? Söz konusu soruya yanıt arama çabası İngiltere’nin dönemin güçlü aktörleri Fransa, İspanya, Kutsal Roma İmparatorluğu ve Roma Katolik Kilisesi ile ilişkilerini analiz etmek gibi kapsamlı bir çalışmayı gerektirir. Bu makale VII. Henry’nin ve VIII. Henry’nin İngiltere’nin yüzyıllardır çatışma halinde olduğu komşusu İskoçya’ya yönelik politikalarını analiz etmek suretiyle bu soruya kısmi bir yanıt sunmayı amaçlamaktadır.
