A COMPARISION OF CHARACTERISTICS OF TURKISH BUSINESS GROUP AS AN ORGANIZATIONAL FORM WITH CHARACTERISTICS OF BUSINESS GROUPS IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES

Abstract

In this research, the characteristics of business groups running in different countries and characteristics of Turkish business groups included in “The Oxford Handbook of Business Groups” are examined by using a comparative analysis. The paper looks into differences and similarities of organisational forms of business group in different countries dealt in the Handbook, by using a holistic approach. This analysis based on five criteria. These criteria are (I) ownership and governance pattern, (II) strategy of industrial (or business) diversification and internationalization, (III) prevalent organizational structure, (IV) economic significance and (V) performance. Which business groups in different countries are more similar to Turkish business groups is shown by considering five criteria in this article.

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, “The Oxford Handbook of Business Groups” adlı eserde konu edilen farklı ülkelerdeki işletme grubu örgütsel formuna ait karakteristikler ile Türkiye’deki işletme gruplarına ait karakteristikler karşılaştırmalı bir şekilde incelenmiştir. Bu inceleme, belirtilen eserdeki, farklı ülkelerdeki işletme grubu örgütsel formlarının benzerlik ve farklılıklarına bütünsel bir şekilde bakmaktadır. İnceleme beş ana kriter açısından yapılmıştır. Bunlar; (1) sahiplik ve yönetim deseni, (2) endüstriyel (iş) çeşitlendirme ve uluslararasılaşma stratejisi, (3) hakim örgüt yapısı, (4) iktisadi önem ve (5) performans şeklindedir. Belirtilen beş kriter kapsamında hangi ülkelerdeki işletme gruplarının Türkiye’deki işletme gruplarına daha çok benzediği de ortaya konulmuştur.
