The Idea of God and the Exİstence of God in Descartes

Abstract

In III. Meditation, Descartes presents the idea of God that we find in our minds as evidence for the existence of a God outside the mind. According to him, there is an idea of God in our minds, which we describe as transcendent, the creator of everything, an infinite substance, and the idea of such a being cannot root in our finite nature. But nothing that happens afterward can happen by itself, and the cause of a thing must have more reality than its effect. Therefore, the reason for the idea of God that we find in our minds must only be the existence of God. Consequently, this argument deserves to be seen as an answer to the human mind's answer to why there is an idea of God, who is transcendent, the creator of all things, and an infinite being. The article discusses how the idea of God in our mind can be used as evidence for the existence of God and claims that this argument can be seen in the type of cosmological evidence.

Descartes’ta Tanrı Fikri ve Tanrı’nın Varlığı

Year 2022, Issue: 53, 509 - 532, 30.12.2022

Abstract

III.
