JAPONCA DERS KİTAPLARINDA -TA EKİNİN ÖĞRETİMİ ÜZERİNE

Abstract

ON THE TEACHİNG OF -TA IN JAPANESE TEXTBOOKS

Abstract

The fact that Turkish and Japanese have similar structural and morphological features might be seen as an advantage for learners of these languages. However, similar points can cause confusion and make acquisition difficult, especially in morphemes that have more than one function and do not have a semantic and grammatical connection between these functions. At this point, it is very important for interlanguage development to create an initial awareness of the functions of morphemes that are widely used in daily life. In this article, the handling of all the functions of -ta is presented in the beginner level textbooks and the effect of this current teaching on acquisition is discussed. It is concluded that only the tense and aspect functions of -ta are mostly taught, but the modal functions are almost never taught. Having modal functions similar to the Turkish past tense morpheme is an advantage as it enables native language transfer, it is predicted and recommended that modal functions of -ta can be easily taught to Turkish learners of Japanese.
