A New Look at the Relationship between Total Quality Management and Innovation: Innovative Literacy

Öz

Total Quality Management (TQM) is accepted as the basis for increasing organisational productivity, profitability, and customer satisfaction. While quality performance is essential to gain a competitive advantage, innovation is the catalyst for further growth. So organizations cannot afford either of these, and it is important to explore how the two can go hand in hand. It is supported by various arguments in the literature that TQM practices help to create an environment and culture that supports innovation in both human and technological dimensions. Despite this, total quality and innovation are seen as different fields or disciplines in academia and sectors. Therefore, there is a need for employees who take part in the principle of "people first" to achieve success in enterprises with total quality, which is based on continuous improvement. Innovative literacy, on the other hand, is the ability of the individual to make sense of the inclination of the individual to innovation, the events occurring in the environment and society, to be aware of the levels of technological developments, and to understand all issues related to innovation. It is extremely important for organizations to redefine the practices of total quality management principles with innovative individuals and to develop these principles in continuous improvement. This research aims to review the literature on “innovative literacy” in the relationship between total quality management and innovation and to develop a conceptual framework for this relationship. In the literature study, it is seen that the concept of innovative literacy in total quality management is not encountered. This article attempts to explore the interrelationships and their influence on each other with an empirical approach. Within the scope of the research, a conceptual framework has been developed and a model has been proposed for total quality management on innovation practices and innovative literacy.

TOPLAM KALİTE YÖNETİMİ VE İNOVASYON İLİŞKİSİNE YENİ BİR BAKIŞ: İNOVATİF OKURYAZARLIK

Öz

Toplam Kalite Yönetimi (TKY) kuruluşlarda üretkenliği, karlılığı ve müşteri memnuniyetini artırmanın temeli olarak kabul edilmektedir. Rekabet avantajını elde etmek için kalite performansı zorunlu olsa da, inovasyon daha fazla büyüme için katalizördür. Dolayısıyla kuruluşlar bunlardan herhangi birinden vazgeçemezler ve bu ikisinin nasıl birlikte ele alınabileceğini araştırmak önemlidir. Toplam Kalite Yönetimi uygulamalarının hem insan hem de teknoloji boyutunda inovasyonu destekleyen bir ortam ve kültür oluşturmaya yardımcı olduğu literatürde çeşitli argümanlarca desteklenmektedir. Buna rağmen toplam kalite ve inovasyon akademide ve sektörlerde farklı alanlar veya disiplinler olarak görülmektedir. Dolayısıyla sürekli iyileştirmeden yola çıkan toplam kalitede inovatif çalışmaların işletmelerde başarıya gitmesinde “önce insan” ilkesinde yer alan çalışanlara ihtiyaç vardır. İnovatif okuryazarlık ise bireyin inovasyona yatkınlığını, çevrede ve toplumda meydana gelen olayları anlamlandırma, teknolojik gelişmelerin düzeylerinin farkında olma ve yenilikle ilgili tüm konuları anlama becerisidir. Organizasyonların toplam kalite yönetimi ilkelerinin uygulamalarını inovatif bireyle yeniden tanımlamaları ve bu ilkeleri sürekli iyileştirme içinde geliştirmeleri son derece önemlidir. Bu araştırmanın amacı toplam kalite yönetimi ve inovasyon arasındaki ilişkide “inovatif okuryazarlık” üzerine literatürü gözden geçirmek ve bu ilişki üzerine bir kavramsal çerçeve geliştirmektir. Literatür çalışmasında toplam kalite yönetiminde inovatif okuryazar kavramına rastlanılmadığı görülmektedir. Bu makale, ampirik bir yaklaşımla karşılıklı ilişkileri ve birbirlerinin üzerindeki etkisini araştırmaya çalışmaktadır. Araştırma kapsamında inovasyon uygulamaları ve inovatif okuryazarlık üzerine toplam kalite yönetiminde kavramsal çerçeve geliştirilmiş ve bir model önerilmiştir.edilen veriler literatür çerçevesinde tartışılmıştır.
