Investigating the Effect of Foreign Direct Capital Investments on Unemployment Using Panel Data Analysis

Öz

The main purpose of the study is to reveal the impact of foreign direct investments on developed and developing countries in the context of unemployment. In line with the main purpose, it has been tried to reveal differences in the effects of foreign direct investments on female and male unemployment rates in developed and developing countries. Accordingly, the countries used in the study are divided into two main categories: developed and developing European countries. In the study, data on foreign direct investments, unemployment rate, female unemployment rate, male unemployment rate, gross domestic product and inflation variables for the period 2002-2021 were used. According to the results of the analysis, it has been determined that foreign direct investments have a more reducing effect on the unemployment rate in developing countries. In addition, while it was found to reduce female and male unemployment rates to a greater extent in developing countries, it was found to have no effect on the male unemployment rate in developed countries.

Öz

Çalışmanın temel amacı doğrudan yabancı yatırımların gelişmiş ve gelişmekte olan ülkeler üzerindeki etkisini işsizlik bağlamında ortaya koymaktır. Temel amaç doğrultusunda gelişmiş ve gelişmekte olan ülkeler bazında doğrudan yabancı yatırımların kadın ve erkek işsizlik oranları üzerindeki etkilerinde farklılıklar ortaya koyulmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu doğrultuda çalışmada kullanılan ülkeler gelişmiş ve gelişmekte olan Avrupa ülkeleri olarak iki ana kategoriye alınmıştır. Çalışmada 2002-2021 dönemine ait doğrudan yabancı yatırımlar, işsizlik oranı, kadın işsizlik oranı, erkek işsizlik oranı, gayri safi yurt içi hasıla ve enflasyon değişkenlerine ait veriler kullanılmıştır. Gerçekleştirilen analiz sonuçlarına göre doğrudan yabancı yatırımların gelişmekte olan ülkelerde işsizlik oranı üzerinde daha fazla azaltıcı etki yarattığı tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca gelişmekte olan ülkelerde kadın ve erkek işsizlik oranlarını daha büyük oranda azalttığı tespit edilirken, gelişmiş ülkelerde erkek işsizlik oranı üzerinde herhangi bir etkisinin olmadığı tespit edilmiştir.
