Working Experiences of University Students: Part-Time Work

Öz

Many university students work part-time while continuing their education for various reasons. This study aims is to examine the reasons for working part-time working students while continuing their university education, the problems they encounter in their working life, the relationship between the department they study and the sector they work in, their thoughts about the department, their participation in social activities in terms of various variables. For this purpose, the case study pattern, one of the qualitative methods, was preferred. Research data were collected by conducting semi-structured interviews developed by the researcher with 14 students. Participants were asked 14 questions including their demographic information. The MAXQDA 2020 computer program was used to analyze the research data. According to the research findings; It has been concluded that students have financial difficulties and work to socialize, they encounter various problems in their working life, there is no relationship between the department they study and the sector they work in, they do not believe that they can find a job related to their department when they finish school, and they cannot participate in social activities.The results obtained from the research were discussed in the related literature and suggestions were presented.

Öz

Pek çok üniversite öğrencisi çeşitli nedenlerden dolayı eğitimlerine devam ederken yarı zamanlı olarak çalışmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı üniversite eğitimlerine devam ederken çalışma hayatına atılıp yarı zamanlı çalışan öğrencilerin çalışma nedenlerini, çalışma hayatında karşılaşmış oldukları sorunları, eğitim gördükleri bölüm ile çalıştıkları sektör arasındaki ilişkiyi, bölüm hakkındaki düşüncelerini, sosyal faaliyetlere katılma durumunu çeşitli değişkenler açısından incelemektir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda nitel yöntemlerden durum çalışması deseni tercih edilmiştir. Araştırma verileri 14 öğrenci ile araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler gerçekleştirilerek toplanmıştır. Katılımcılara demografik bilgilerini de içeren 14 soru yöneltilmiştir. Araştırma verilerinin çözümlenmesinde MAXQDA 2020 bilgisayar programı kullanılmıştır. Araştırma bulgularına göre; öğrenciler maddi imkânsızlıklar ve sosyalleşmek için çalıştıkları, çalışma hayatında çeşitli sorunlarla karşılaştıkları, eğitim aldıkları bölüm ile çalıştıkları sektör arasında bir ilişkinin olmadığı, okulu bitirdiklerinde bölümleri ile alakalı iş bulabileceklerine inanmadıkları ve sosyal faaliyetlere katılamadıkları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen sonuçlar ilgili literatür çerçevesinde tartışılarak öneriler sunulmuştur.
