Many factors such as the decline in the quality of education, the schools’ inability to fulfill the needs, limitation of freedoms, working environments, various inadequacies and moral decline which is seen in the public schools of the United States after 1970 have created the need for alternative education. In this sense home-schools come in sight as an alternative educational institution. The main purpose of this study is to define the position of the home schools operating in America within the context of alternative education studies. During the study the literature is reviewed, related articles are analyzed and notional framework is reported. The content of this study is limited to subjects such as the definition of home-school, background information, justification and varieties of home-schools; statistical data about the number of home-school students; the characteristics of the students and the parents at home-schools; the home-school practice (program, source, method, evaluation) and the criticism on its practicality. In the conclusion part according to the arguments personal opinions are stated and recommendations proposed.
