DETERMINING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HEALTH KNOWLEDGE IN DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT AND CONFIRMATION BEHAVIOR, AND THE HEALTH LITERACY INFORMATION LEVEL OF A UNIVERSITY STAFF

Year 2023, Issue: 25, 123 - 134, 30.04.2023
https://doi.org/10.29029/busbed.1205026

Abstract

This research, since it took place in a certain time period, determines the relationship between health literacy level and behaviors of acquiring and confirming health information in the digital environment, is a cross-sectional study. In the study, appropriate statistical methods were preferred according to the data quality. Within the study, which is carried out on a university staff in Turkey the stratified sampling method was preferred for data gathering. Data were analyzed with the help of SPSS (Statistical Package Program for Social Science) V24.0 software. The results of the research were interpreted at 95% confidence interval and 5% confidence level (p<0.05). In the research, the average score of health information confirmation method acquired on digital platforms was high. However, health information obtained without using social media platforms had a higher average score than health information obtained using these platforms. The critical and interactive health literacy mean scores of the participants were higher, respectively while functional health literacy was lower. There was a negative and weak relationship between the behaviors of acquiring health information without using social media and critical health literacy. However, no significant relationship was found between the behaviors of acquiring health information using social media and all sub-dimensions of health literacy. Moreover, a positive and moderately significant relationship was found between the health information confirmation method obtained in the digital environment and all sub-dimensions of health literacy. It is recommended that the research should be carried out on more samples and in different universities by using the same measurement tools.
